Tang Soo Do – The Way of the Chinese Hand

Tradition • Honor • Inner Strength

Welcome to Black Hawks Martial Arts Tang Soo Do

At Black Hawks Martial Art, we practice Tang Soo Do — a classical Korean striking art known for its powerful techniques, fluid movement, and deep moral foundation. Rooted in over 2,000 years of martial tradition, Tang Soo Do combines the best of Korean, Chinese, and Okinawan influences into a disciplined, beautiful, and practical system.

Our school is dedicated to preserving authentic Tang Soo Do in its traditional form — without commercial shortcuts or diluted instruction.

What We Teach

Our curriculum follows the **Moo Duk Kwan** lineage principles, focusing on:

  • Hyungs (Forms) – Classical patterns teaching balance, breath, and transition
  • Self-Defense (Hosinsul) – Joint locks, throws, strikes, and defenses against grabs and weapons
  • Step Sparring (Il Soo Sik Dae Ryun) – Controlled partner drills for timing and precision
  • Free Sparring (Ja Yu Dae Ryun) – Controlled, respectful, and skill-building
  • Breaking (Kyuk Pa) – Focus, power, and mental discipline
  • Basic Techniques (Kee Cho) – Kicks, hand strikes, stances, and blocks

The Black Hawks Difference

  • Certified Tang Soo Do Instructors** with traditional training
  • Rank requirements based on mastery, not time**
  • Emphasis on the 5 Tenets of Tang Soo Do:**
  • Integrity (Chungshin Tongil)
  • Concentration (Jip Joong)
  • Perseverance (In Neh)
  • Respect & Obedience (Kyung Nyae & Pok Neung)
